NDIS
The NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and is managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). The NDIS is a program implemented in Australia to provide support and assistance to individuals with disabilities. It is a government-funded initiative aimed at improving the lives of people with disabilities by providing them with access to necessary services and supports so they can gain more time with family and friends, greater independence, access to new skills, jobs, or volunteering in their community, and improved quality of life.
The NDIS was introduced with the intention of shifting the focus from providing services based on a person's disability to supporting their individual needs and goals. Under the scheme, people with disabilities are assessed based on their functional impairments and the impact these impairments have on their daily lives. If they meet the eligibility criteria, they can receive funding to access a wide range of services and supports.
The NDIS provides funding for various forms of support, including but not limited to:
Core Supports: Assistance with daily activities, personal care, and community participation.
Capacity building: Support to develop skills, access education, find employment, and participate in the community.
Capital supports: Funding for assistive technology, home modifications, and specialized equipment.
Support coordination Assistance in navigating the NDIS and coordinating services and recovery coaching.
The scheme aims to empower individuals with disabilities by giving them greater choice and control over the support they receive.
